FYI the Flocafe in Exarchia has been closed down. You'd better give an appointment opposite, between the Vox cinema and the creperie - Badseed απάντηση 20:33, 7 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)

Great :(. I hope Kostisl shows up soon and helps out. Jonathan Groß 10:52, 8 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
For the love of holiness, the people are coming to see GREECE, so IMO Monastiraki is better. I would suggest we pick some traditional Greek taverna with various meze and stuff, and I'd love to see the meeting taking place under the influence of good wine and the sound of bouzouki playing slowly in the background. Mondays are not busy, and we'll probably have the whole joint for ourselves. Crépes aren't that rare in Berlin either. NikoSilver 23:58, 10 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)

I hope so :) Will you come too? By the way: The new location should provide relaxed seating, which means we can form small groups or large groups as we like, and don't have to sit in the same order all evening.

Άμα λάχει sounds fine, Άμα λάχει it is! We just need somebody to reservate a table or two... Jonathan Groß 20:00, 11 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
I am coming back to Athens on March 19th. Let's see how many people participate, and I can do the reservation one day or two before meeting...--Κωστής 09:39, 15 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)

I'll definitely try Jonathan, if I'm in Athens, but I'm not listing myself unless I'm sure about it. NikoSilver 00:13, 13 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
I'll also try to be there. Although a possible absence of Nikos would be a counter-motive for me!!!--Yannismarou 18:10, 15 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
And for the record, IMO "Ama Lachei" is a mediocre tavern, but since the decision is taken let it be!--Yannismarou 18:46, 15 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)

I suggest that the meeting should not be located in a tavern. It should be a place (probably cafeteria) for comfort conversations so that everyone can talk to everybody as Jonathan says. I'm sure that it will not be the only chance for the guys to eat greek food, but it will be their only chance to meet greek wikipedians. — Geraki ΣΜ 23:39, 15 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)

You're free to suggest anything! But please don't just express your concerns, suggest an alternative! :) Jonathan Groß 09:39, 16 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
I'm also a guest in Athens! So I thought that my interest is mostly to talk with wikipedians than to eat with wikipedians. I don't know places but I've just thrown an idea about the type of the place. — Geraki ΣΜ 11:03, 16 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
No offense, but that's not very helpful. We need to plan ahead, so we need somebody to propose a specific place AND make sure it will be open and have some spare tables. If you (or somebody) could arrange this, I'd be very glad. Yours, Jonathan Groß 12:07, 16 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
If it is "Ama Lachei", it is "Ama Lachei"! Let's go there. Whatever! But 1) Why should we stay all the time in this place? Let's follow the Greek way! Let's go from one coffee-food break to the other! Let's not forget that it is spring in Greece now and 2)Have in mind the following things:
  • Athens has an excellent weather during this period. "Ama Lachei" is a closed tavern.
  • "Ama Lachei" is in Exarcheia, which is not the nicest place of Athens for a person who has never been in our country and our capital. Athens has so beautiful places! Monastiraki (Adrianou in Monastiraki and Apostolou Pavlou streets in Theseio are wonderful in spring) as Nikos said, Theseio, Psyrrh. For instance, "Dioskouri" in Plaka (I mean the Anw Dioskouroi) or the "rakomeladika" in Theseio are outdoors, in open air, much more traditional and we can also enjoy the excellent weather. I also know some more quite places in Theseio with roofgarden, where we can also enjoy the view (Acropolis and Lycabettus at the same time). But these are not so traditional, as Nikos correctly wishes ...
A great advantage of "Ama Lachei" (not the food or the drink of course! I know much better traditional taverns!) is that it is a big and non-crowded place. We do not even have to make a reservation.
In any case, Jonathan don't get upset if we discuss the "issue" until 31 March, 17:59, disagreeing about the place! We are Greeks! But at the end we'll find a way to meet each other and we'll have great fun! Das ist die Griechische Weise!--Yannismarou 16:45, 16 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
If crime rate isn't a problem in Exarcheia, I think its as good a place as any. You know, in Berlin my favorite quarters aren't so fancy either :) Jonathan Groß 22:19, 16 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
Actually, this is the exact problem. But that is not the only reason. Greece is for open spaces, or spaces with a view. Not for closed dungeons in narrow streets. I could suggest Dioskouroi or other mezedo-tavernas in Plaka. Alternatively, I could suggest we go to Vouliagmeni or to Glyfada and watch the Aegean. Of course I want to see the wikipedians too, but do I have to feel imprisoned while at it? NikoSilver 23:13, 16 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
Why imprisoned? And why should we only get to know the touristic side of Athens? As long as we're not getting robbed and mugged, I fail to see the problem. Jonathan Groß 07:21, 17 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
Also, adresses and Google map links to new proposals would be nice. Jonathan Groß 07:22, 17 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
General directions of the areas have been inserted. I suggest we spot the ideal place after we agree on the location first. "Imprisoned", because during spring in Greece you want to be outside. Especially in the late afternoon. For example, the first thing you'll notice when you land is that all houses have 20% of their area in the form of balconies, and another 20% in the form of semi-open spaces. By law, I might add! NikoSilver 20:30, 17 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
We can, of course, change the restaurant several times on that evening, but we should point out one exact starting point (not "several restaurants"), exspecially if nobody of you knows anybody yet :) And - no offense - since I reckon it part of the Greek way not to be punctual, I propose we stay in one place for at least one hour. Jonathan Groß 09:01, 18 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
Yes. I think Yannis' suggestion about changing places will create a mess we don't need. If I used the word "several", I meant it as "many to chose one from" (not as "many to go to in the same evening"). Jonathan, since you are the guest, do you have an opinion on the neighborhood that we should be looking? NikoSilver 10:04, 18 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
In my opinion it's vain to change the (starting) place at all. We've got one that has been told everybody in various projects, and we don't wanna cause unnecessary confusion by changing it again. I think we should just meet at the Ama lachi, and when we're all there, we can still look for another place, if requested. Yours, Jonathan Groß 16:33, 18 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
But you just said that moving is difficult (and I agreed). My opinion is that we must choose one place, and stay there. That's why I want it to be nice. Also, going elsewhere depends on the availability of attractive places in the neighborhood. Wiki-invitations can be updated, it's still early. Anyway... NikoSilver 22:00, 18 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
What I meant to say was: Moving the place where we FIRST meet is difficult. When we're all gathered, we can go wherever we want. It's so simple: We meet at the Ama lachi at 6 PM, then wait until everybody is there, than go somewhere else if requested. Jonathan Groß 08:10, 20 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)

Proposals

To cut the long story short... NikoSilver 23:17, 16 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)

Please add your proposed place below

  1. Ama Lachei here
  2. Dioskouroi (et al.) 13, Dioskouron str. (or in the general area of en:Plaka to the North and East of the Acropolis).
  3. Andrianou str. here view towards the Acropolis from the North (scroll map down), numerous restaurants and shops. Not necessarily "touristic", I might add.
  4. En plo (Εν πλω), Vouliagmeni here (Poseidonos Av, below Orfeos towards the sea) - probably far for most, but one of the most beautiful locations in Attica
  5. The cafeteria on the hill of Lycabetus (all Athens beneath your feet)[1]

Pics

Well Sunday was as always photo-day and i went down the Exarchia way. Here are some pics of amalachei just to give you an idea and help you recognize the place if you go there in the end. They're not promotional and they'll be deleted soon. - Badseed απάντηση 08:25, 25 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the effort. It looks nice :) But why even delete them? They're a great addition to our community work! Jonathan Groß 10:17, 25 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC)
Hmmm maybe I'll upload the full size version as "streets of exarchia" or something. But the other two, used maybe in an article about A.L.?

Why the same place for the second meeting?!

I see a great love for "Ama Lachei"! The second meeting there again! IMO it would be better to choose one of the 5 other places which have been proposed. I don't see the reason why to repeat the same meeting again in the same place. Anyway, if that is what convenes the majority, and if our German visitors don't want a change, it is fine with me ... In any case, other places with the appropriate roadmaps and addresses (die auch keine Kriminalitat vorweisen, Jonathan!) are proposed.

I also wanted to notify that I'll try to be there today, but I do not know if I'll manage to and for how much time. Some unexpected developments may keep me away from your great Greco-German company. So, despite my disagreement about the place, this second meeting works great for me!--84.205.255.22 07:01, 31 Μαρτίου 2008 (UTC) (It is Yannismarou!)
