Φρέντερικ Κένυον

Ο σερ Φρέντερικ Κένυον (αγγλ. Sir Frederic George Kenyon) (1863-1952) υπήρξε Βρετανός παλαιογράφος και λόγιος της εκκλησιαστικής και κλασικής φιλολογίας.

Βιογραφικά στοιχεία

Γεννήθηκε στις 15 Ιανουαρίου 1863 στο Λονδίνο. Πατέρας του ήταν ο Τζων Ρόμπερτ Κένυον. Σπούδασε στο πανεπιστήμιο της Οξφόρδης. Το 1889 διορίστηκε στο Βρετανικό Μουσείο, όπου έγινε διευθυντής και ανώτατος βιβλιοθηκάριος το 1909. Τιμήθηκε για τις υπηρεσίες του με τον τίτλο ευγενείας του σερ το έτος 1912. Το 1920 διορίστηκε πρόεδρος της Βρετανικής Αρχαιολογικής Σχολής των Ιεροσολύμων. Αφού συνταξιοδοτήθηκε αφιερώθηκε στην μελέτη των αρχαίων παπύρων. Μελέτησε την Παλαιά και ιδιαίτερα την Νέα Διαθήκη, αναλύοντας τα ιστορικά δεδομένα που αναφέρονται στα κείμενα. Απεβίωσε στις 23 Αυγούστου 1952. Κόρη του ήταν η αρχαιολόγος Καθλήν Κένυον.
