Ανατολική Αφρική

Ανατολική Αφρική ονομάζεται η πιο ανατολική περιοχή της Αφρικανικής ηπείρου, όπως ορίζεται από τη γεωγραφία ή τη γεωπολιτική. Σύμφωνα με τον Οργανισμό Ηνωμένων Εθνών, 19 περιοχές σχηματίζουν την Ανατολική Αφρική:[1]
- Τανζανία, Κένυα, Ουγκάντα, Ρουάντα, και Μπουρουντί – μέλη της Κοινότητα Κρατών της Ανατολικής Αφρικής (EAC). Το Μπουρουντί και η Ρουάντα θεωρούνται μερικές φορές μέρη της Κεντρικής Αφρικής.
- Τζιμπουτί, Ερυθραία, Αιθιοπία, και Σομαλία – συλλογικά γνωστές και ως Κέρας της Αφρικής[2][3][4][5][6]
- Μοζαμβίκη και Μαδαγασκάρη – συχνά θεωρούνται μέρη της Νότιας Αφρικής. Η Μαδαγασκάρη συνδέεται στενά πολιτισμικά με την Νοτιοανατολική Ασία και τα νησιά του Ινδικού Ωκεανού.
- Μαλάουι, Ζάμπια, και Ζιμπάμπουε – συχνά συγκαταλέγονται επίσης στην Νότια Αφρική, και παλαιότερα μέλη της διαλυθείσας Κεντροαφρικανικής Ομοσπονδίας.
- Κομόρες, Μαυρίκιος, και Σεϋχέλλες – μικρά νησιά στον Ινδικό Ωκεανό
- Ρεουνιόν και Μαγιότ – Γαλλικά υπερπόντια διαμερίσματα επίσης στον Ινδικό Ωκεανό.
Ο όρος Ανατολική Αφρική χρησιμοποιείται συχνά για να αναφερθεί στην περιοχή που σχηματίζεται μεταξύ της Κένυας, της Τανζανίας και της Ουγκάντα,[7][8][9][10] και (η πιο ευρεία έννοια του όρου) συγκαταλέγει επίσης τη Ρουάντα, το Μπουρούντι, τη Σομαλία, το Τζιμπουτί, την Αιθιοπία, την Ερυθραία και το Σουδάν.[11][12][13][14][15][16]
Η Αίγυπτος αν και αποτελεί τμήμα του βορειοανατολικού μέρους της ηπείρου[17] , θεωρείται κομμάτι της Βορείου Αφρικής.[18]
