Η α-χεντερίνη είναι μια υδατοδιαλυτή πεντακυκλική τριτερπενοειδής σαπωνίνη που απαντάται στους σπόρους του φυτού Nigella sativa και στα φύλλα του θάμνου Hedera helix.[1][2][3][4]

Τόσο η α-χεντερίνη όσο επίσης και το παράγωγό της, η καλοπαναξοσαπονίνη, έχουν μελετηθεί για την αντικαρκινική τους δράση.[5][6] Η α-χεντερίνη έχει αποδειχθεί ότι ενισχύει την κυτταροτοξικότητα ενός καθιερωμένου χημειοθεραπευτικού παράγοντα, της 5-φθοροουρακίλης, σε ένα μοντέλο καρκινώματος του παχέος εντέρου.[5]
