Ο ψιλόρρυγχος (λατινική και επιστημονική ονομασία Psilorhynchus, από τις ελληνικές λέξεις ψιλός και ρύγχος) είναι γένος ψαριών των γλυκών νερών, που ανήκει στη δική του, ομώνυμη οικογένεια τις ψιλορρυγχίδες, της οποίας αποτελεί το μοναδικό γένος. Η οικογένεια αυτή προτάθηκε αργότερα, από τον Ινδό ιχθυολόγο Σούντερ Λαλ Χόρα το 1926, ενώ το γένος είχε προταθεί από τον Βρετανό ιατρό Τζων Μακκλήλαντ ήδη από το 1838.
Οι ψιλόρρυγχοι είναι μικρά ψάρια του βυθού, ιθαγενή της Νότιας Ασίας, και συναντώνται σε ποτάμια και ρυάκια με ταχεία ροή, ιδίως στην Ινδοκίνα και τα Δυτικά Γκατ.
Το γένος/οικογένεια είναι αδελφή ομάδα με την οικογένεια του κυπρίνου, τις κυπρινίδες, μαζί με την οποία συναποτελούν την υπεροικογένεια κυπρινοειδή (Cyprinoidea), ενώ όλες οι άλλες οικογένειες της τάξεως κυπρινόμορφα ανήκουν στην υπεροικογένεια Cobitoidea.[1]
