Wiki Loves Women Closing the gender gap in Africa, starting with West Africa in 2016-2017 - Florence Devouard, Isla Haddow-Flood

Wiki Loves Women activates, trains, and supports individuals and civil society organisations as they contribute vital information to Wikipedia. It intends to put right two of Wikipedia’s worst contributor and knowledge shortcomings: women and Africa.
Throughout 2016 and 2017, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut, the project has worked to encourage the contribution of existing information from Civil Society Organisations and Gender-equality groups to Wikipedia in four countries across Africa: Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana and Nigeria.
In addition, the project encourages the activation and support of new and existing editors (both female and gender-sensitised male Wikipedians) in the focus countries … and globally, through targeted content creation and expansion challenges. The online global challenges has helped to make the issues visible to the global Wikimedia community.
The talk is proposed by Isla Haddow-Flood and Anthere (Florence Devouard) and will introduce the project and its actions.
